Ford F53 V10 Chassis

Ford F-53 V10 Chassis

Available from 1998-2020, the Ford F53 with the 6.8L V10 engine is one of the most common gas Class A coaches on the road. Despite its popularity, F53 V10 owners often experience handling challenges like body roll, wander, and harsh ride. The Ford F53 V10 chassis is available in 3 GVWR classes: 16,000-18,000 lbs., 20,500-22,000 lbs., and 24,000-26,000 lbs. This is important because when Ford is building their chassis, they use different rear axles depending on the GVWR class. Each rear axle has a different configuration, which requires our suspension upgrades to have the right style brackets and configuration to install correctly. There is an article below that explains where to find the GVWR in your RV.

If you’ve ever driven a motorhome built on the Ford F53 chassis and thought, “Why does this thing feel like I’m steering a cruise ship in high winds?”—you’re not alone. That floaty feeling, especially at highway speeds or on windy days, is a common complaint among RV owners. And while it may be “normal” for a stock F53, it’s far from ideal—or safe. Let’s talk about what causes it… and how you can fix it.

Cheap Handling Fix

As you search Google looking for RV information you may have run across the “Cheap Handling Fix” term while surfing the internet. In simple terms, it’s where a person crawls under a Ford Motorhome and moves the front anti-sway bar bolts attached to the end-links. The thought behind this is to try and create a stiffer mounting setup in hopes to provide more sway resistance for the front of the coach.
