Wild Blue Wanderers Put SuperSteer Motion Control Units to the Test

What happens when you install SuperSteer Motion Control Units on a motorhome and actually put some miles on them?

That’s exactly what Wild Blue Wanderers (@WildBlueWanderers on YouTube) set out to find out. We sent them a set of SuperSteer Motion Control Units, or MCUs, to install and test on their M2 chassis Super C motorhome. Instead of giving their opinion right away, they installed the MCUs, hit the road, put more than 3,000 miles on the coach, and came back about three months later with their thoughts.

So, what did they notice? Let’s get into their experience.

What problem were Wild Blue Wanderers trying to solve?

For Wild Blue Wanderers, one of the biggest complaints was the rocking they experienced with their rear air suspension. They especially noticed it while going in and out of parking lots or traveling over uneven areas at slower speeds. As the motorhome leaned one direction and then came back the other way, they would experience a noticeable rocking motion from side to side.

There was even one spot at the end of their driveway where they knew they had to take it really slow. Even then, they said the motorhome would still have a “huge rock back and forth.” That gave them a pretty good testing ground for the SuperSteer MCUs.

What do SuperSteer Motion Control Units do?

As Wild Blue Wanderers explained in their video, SuperSteer Motion Control Units slow the air moving in and out of the airbags.

When the motorhome leans to one side, one airbag can begin letting air out while the other begins adding air as the system tries to level the coach. Then, as the coach comes back the other direction, that can contribute to the back-and-forth rocking they were experiencing.

The MCUs slow that process down.

As they put it, instead of the airbag quickly filling and lowering as the motorhome moves from side to side, the Motion Control Units slow the fill. The goal is to reduce that major rocking back and forth.

How difficult was the SuperSteer MCU installation?

One thing Wild Blue Wanderers emphasized throughout the video was how simple they found the installation. This isn’t the case in every application as every coach is different, but for their 2020 Dynamax Force HD 37TS it was a simple installation.

The Motion Control Units were installed inline with the air lines going to the airbags. Before cutting the line, they cleaned the area and made sure they had a nice, clean, square cut.

Once the line was cut, the MCU slipped into place.

After installing both units and airing the system back up, they also used soapy water around the fittings to check for leaks. No bubbles meant the connections were airtight.

Did the SuperSteer MCUs make a difference?

Before giving a final answer, Wild Blue Wanderers wanted to actually use their motorhome.

After about three months and more than 3,000 miles of driving, they had their answer.

“They definitely, definitely make an improvement.”

They said the difference was especially noticeable at slow speeds while going in and out of parking lots and traveling across uneven areas where they had previously experienced the coach whipping back and forth.

They even joked about the movement before the MCU installation being enough to throw things out of the cabinets. After installing the SuperSteer MCUs, they said that motion had improved significantly.

What happened at their problem spot after installing the MCUs?

Remember that spot at the end of their driveway?

It was an area where they previously had to drive very slowly and would still experience a large rocking motion from side to side. After installing the MCUs, they tested the motorhome in that same spot. The movement wasn't completely gone, and they were clear about that. But their reaction says quite a bit:

“It’s still there, but nothing like what it used to be.”

They called the difference “pretty impressive.” That kind of real-world comparison is exactly why we appreciate seeing RV owners put our products to use on their own coaches.

Is there anything to know after installing SuperSteer MCUs?

Wild Blue Wanderers did point out one change they noticed after installing the Motion Control Units.

Because the MCUs slow the movement of air, they found that dumping the air from the rear of their RV took longer than before. Raising the suspension initially could also take longer. Their motorhome has a push-button dump valve, but they noted that the exact experience can depend on the application.

Their advice was simple: give the system time. After several months of use, this was the main thing they said owners needed to remember about having the MCUs installed.

Would Wild Blue Wanderers recommend SuperSteer Motion Control Units?

After more than 3,000 miles of testing, their answer was yes.

They described the installation as simple, said the MCUs made a big improvement in the slow-speed rocking they had been experiencing, and said they were “really, really happy with them.”

They finished their review by saying: “I think they’re a great system.”
