What’s the Deal with the S2RV?
Level Up the S2RV for Maximum Enjoyment.
Let's dive into the world of the S2RV chassis and uncover why it's such a hit with RV enthusiasts—and how you can make it even better. If you’re an RVer looking to elevate your ride, this is for you!
What’s the Deal with the S2RV?
The S2RV is a "Super C" chassis, one of the most popular models out there today, courtesy of Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC). So, what makes it so special?
For starters, unlike your typical Class C, which sits on a van chassis, the S2RV is built on a medium-duty truck chassis. This means it’s designed to be tougher, more durable, and more powerful. We're talking heavy-duty leaf springs up front, air ride suspension in the back, and air brakes to keep everything in check. Under the hood, you’ve got the reliable Cummins B6.7 engine, paired with an Allison 3000 series transmission, ensuring that this rig is ready for just about anything.
But it’s not just about the hardware; owning an S2RV means you’re part of the Freightliner family. This comes with perks like the My 24/7 Direct service, which offers round-the-clock support, and access to Camp Freightliner, where you can learn the ins and outs of your coach. And if you ever need repair work or simple routine maintenance, you’re never far from one of Freightliner’s specialized service centers scattered across the country.
Level Up Your S2RV
Now, while the S2RV is pretty fantastic right out of the gate, there’s always room for improvement. Let's talk about how you can take your ride from good to “Whoa, this is awesome!”
1. Smooth Out the Ride
One of the main areas where S2RV owners notice room for improvement is in the ride quality. Those sturdy leaf springs up front, while great for durability, can make for a bit of a rough ride on bumpy roads. Want to make it smoother? Start by weighing your motorhome to ensure you’re running the correct tire pressure for the load you’re carrying. Even dropping just 5 psi in your front tires could make a difference.
Another significant upgrade is switching to Koni shocks. These aren’t your everyday shocks—they’re designed to improve ride comfort and stability. The big bore EVO shocks in the front and FSDs in the back will make you feel like you're gliding down the road instead of bouncing along it.
2. Tame the Sway
Sway can be a real buzzkill, especially when pulling into a driveway at an angle or battling strong winds. Fortunately, there are some solid solutions. Those Koni shocks we mentioned earlier? They’re a big help. But to really lock things down, consider adding a bigger rear anti-sway bar and a front anti-sway bar from Roadmaster. These will keep your rig level, even when the road (or the wind) tries to throw you off balance.
For the ultimate sway control, look no further than our SuperSteer Motion Control Units. They work on the rear air suspension to minimize that annoying side-to-side motion. And if you want to tackle front-end sway and axle chatter, front Sumo Springs are your new best friends.
3. Sharpen Your Steering
If you’ve ever found yourself wrestling with the steering wheel in a crosswind, you know the struggle is real. That’s where the Safe-T-Plus steering control comes in. This nifty device centers your steering, making it easier to keep your RV on course, even in gusty conditions. Plus, it could save the day if you ever have a front tire blowout.
To add even more precision to your steering, consider a Roadmaster Davis Tru-Trac front trac bar. It keeps your front axle from wandering, giving you better steering response and making your drive feel more controlled.
Ready to Roll?
Whether you want to make a few tweaks or go all-in on upgrades, there’s a lot you can do to take your S2RV’s ride, handling, and steering to the next level. If you’re curious about any of these options or have questions about your rig, our SuperSteer experts are just a call away at 888-898-3281.
Safe and Happy travels, and here’s to a more enjoyable adventure on the open road!
